Finding Joy and Embracing Balance in a New Chapter of Life

I want to share something deeply personal with you today—a journey I’ve been on for the past year that’s been full of challenges, reflections, and growth. For those who know me well, you know that faith, family, and friendships are at the heart of my life as a Christian. Everything I do flows from this foundation. My life has been shaped by years of being a hands-on mom: the PTA mom, the Scout leader, the church teacher, the community volunteer. But last year, everything shifted when both Connor and Logan Julia, headed off to pursue their dreams. With Logan leaving, Joe and I officially became empty nesters. And while this is exactly how it should be, and nothing makes me prouder than seeing them crush it at life, it was harder than I anticipated.
The daily involvement in their lives—the small, routine connections that once filled my days—was suddenly different. Our roles as parents were evolving, and I knew I needed to fill this new space in my heart meaningfully. So, while showing up fully for my job, Joe and I did something wild: we built two more businesses over the past year, which amounts to three businesses in the past three years.
Starting from scratch in a new town and state was exciting, but it also meant leaving behind a familiar support network. As we focused on work—starting and growing Cavalry Appliance, then Highland Business Center & Coworking Space, and simultaneously Outcome Academy, as well as me working in my full-time role in the hospital—social invitations became fewer, and life grew quieter. And while the demands kept building, a sense of loneliness crept in.
Then, on September 1st, driving home after visiting family, the weight of it all hit me like a wave. Tears flowed, and I found myself questioning everything: “Why am I working so hard? Where’s the joy? Where are my friends?” Logan’s hug at that moment was just what I needed.
Reflecting on that night, I realized Joe and I had been sprinting for years, pushing ourselves to meet the demands of work, business, volunteering, and endless goals. That drive and ambition, while powerful, were depleting us at our core. So, I made a promise to myself (and all of us):
- Daily downtime – making time each day to pause and recharge.
- A day of rest – embracing the idea that God truly knows what He’s talking about when it comes to rest.
- Friday date nights – prioritizing connection and joy with Joe.
- Weekends filled with joy – committing to activities that light up my spirit.
I realized that while I’m passionate about helping others, I need to refill my own cup. (I know, it’s the advice I always give to others but somehow forgot to follow myself!) This shift has already been transformative. I recently spent time with others who are equally dedicated to helping others succeed, and it was refreshing. Meeting Brendon Burchard at KajabiHeroLive reminded me that the journey I’m on can be one of both impact and balance.
Supporting Small Business Owners Without Sacrificing Balance
This season of life is about helping others win at business without sacrificing themselves. I am so grateful for everyone who has supported us along the way, and I’m thrilled to create a space for small business owners—a community of support and strength. For anyone who knows a small business owner, reach out and let them know they’re seen, their work matters, and they don’t have to carry the load alone.
To our friends and family, thank you for being patient while we took on more than most people should. Joe and I are committed to balance now, and we’re eager to reconnect. Friends we haven’t seen much lately, know that we still love and miss you, and yes, we want to be invited.
This journey isn’t just about building businesses; it’s about building a life that aligns with our faith, family, and purpose. And to anyone who feels this weight—you’re not alone. Let’s find joy in the journey together, embracing the balance we all need.
With love,
Ginny
P.S. While I still love my hospital job, the work we’re doing with Outcome Academy to support business owners fills my heart with joy.
